How do birds not fall over when sleeping standing up?

Hey, I've heard that birds stay on their perches when they are asleep because when they settle down to go to sleep, the tendons in their legs lock up, making their feet grasp the perch.
But what about birds that sleep standing on one foot. How does this work?
And with birds that have quite long legs, like herons, egrets, or storks; when they fly, their legs don't just hang there, they go horizontally with the bird. Are these the same general muscles? How does THIS work?

I already know how birds can sleep sitting!!!! But how do they sleep STANDING up? And how do cranes hold their legs to their bodies while flying??

It is speculated that when a bird stands on one leg, it is shutting down half of its brain. So it is not 100% asleep. It is 50% asleep. The bird alternates which leg it uses to stand up, so the entire brain can get the required amount of rest. Sleeping is done to rest the brain, not the body.
