2012 New York Bridal Fashion Week Trends
Vera Wang is tops when it comes to bridal trend setting. Having created gowns for Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez and Chelsea Clinton, she has become the go to gal for bridal couture. For 2012 Vera is responsible for a brand new bridal look. It is remarkably rare for one fashion designer to be single handedly responsible for a trend, but Vera has done so again with her 2012 collections. The most traditional bridal colour of all, white, was completely absent from her runway shows for 2012. She filled the collection with gothic black colours. Things were lightened up a touch with feminine nudes and dusty rose pinks.
One key trends to watch out for next year is laser cutting. Sheer and fine materials like tulle were cut into intricate patterns and designs using a laser as a strikingly modern, delicate alternative to lace. The trend was seen on everything from trails and skirts to veils.
Following the royal wedding celebrations in the UK this year, the wedding fashion world is still under the spell of the Kate Middleton Effect. Kate Middletons stunning gown, designed by Sarah Burton of renowned fashion house Alexander McQueen, has created a trend towards lace and sleeved dresses in 2012. The sleeved wedding dress was spotted all over the catwalks at every major fashion house. The runway favourite was the three quarter length, but dainty capped and long length sleeves also made star turns on the catwalks.
If you dont want to try out the new trend for black, there are plenty of alternative colour trends. Alongside gothic black, classic white shades reigned like never before. While 2011 was all about muted nudes, gold and beige, in the year to come classic white and ivory return as the must have colours. However, if ivory and white are too mainstream for your tastes, then Vera Wang and Monica Lhuillier also set new colour trends for gowns in sandy nudes and pale pinks.
Without question the most important new trend for 2012 was for sheer feminine fabrics. Every single collection featured models virtually floating down the runways in ghostly dresses of tulle and organza. Sheer fabrics were used to great effect, particularly at Vera Wang. Full skirts are in, but are transformed, no longer formed from weightier fabrics. Instead, look for the finest of fabrics, layered to create voluminous yet delicate full skirts.
