Kandinsky's previous compositions were about colour, here is a change incorporating form or shape within the structure of the painting. I believe that this was after his return from Russia, before he returned to the Bauhaus in Germany. I can see elements of the geometric shapes of the Bauhaus or De stijl in this work, especially the work of Piet Mondrian and Schlemmer. Not really my kind of art but I think that I can appreciate the influences within it.
