What would art would you like for your children?
My mom used to have a small childrens art project on the side and now that she has a full time job in a diffrent feild, she thinks I should have a go at it. I can paint pretty much anything, so I would like to get a portfolio together. I am just not sure what I should put in it. I can do murals, paint on wood letters, boards, furniture or even just canvas.
I am in the houskeeping business and would like to show my clients with children what I can bring to the table, I just am not sure what children are into.
What do your kids love?
To the first person that responded, i am NOT looking after or caring for the children. I clean houses and the clients have children, i do not even see the children half the time.
I have some art for my portfolio, i am simply asking for more ideas to broaden it.
You ask about art. Well, there are many more forms of art than just painting. I raised five girls, and pretty much they all had something different in mind for their art projects. However, being in the aerospace industry I (me personally) took an interest in showing my girls the art of construction. No, not building houses, model rockets. Of all the things they got interested in, building models seemed to be a way for them to express their creativity. As for the major part of the construction, when they were young I would handle the harder parts, but always allowed them to have input on decisions about which rocket they would build and how the paint scheme would be. As they got older they began handling their own construction.
While that was a major activity in the house, building and flying model rockets, my oldest had a flair for pencil drawings. The next seemed to like drawing cartoon figures on the driveway with chalk. I bought them "Railroad" chalk, the very thick and heavy pieces of chalk. Ordered them on line. The nice thing about that was it was easy to clean up and she could start again. My third loved music, but that got pushed aside for video games. I strongly recommend avoiding video games for children, even if they are designed for learning. There's so much more that can be learned from being outside the house.
My last two never really showed an interest in any forms of art (that I could identify), but they found their outlets. Just keep in mind that everyone is different. So if you want to put a portfolio together, show diversity, and cover as many areas as you can. That way, no matter what may appeal to a child, you have it covered.
When it comes to music, simple is best. Stay away from horns or drums unless the child is bent on it. As was with my third, she loved the electronic piano. They're not too expensive AND they're easy to make sounds. All I had to do was show her some basic chords and how they worked together. At first she got stuck on one thing, but after a while of trying to play with the radio she became unstuck and started expressing her own musical creations. For a child of 11 she was quite good. Today she's a mother (my first grandchild (girl - ugh) and she wonders about the same things, what she will like, what she will dislike. I told her to just let the flower bloom the way it was designed and don't worry if it's not what YOU want. She'll be her own person. This I learned from having five myself.
