Maintaining Chesapeake Bay Bridge: Scaffolding for a Maryland Marvel
One of the most important components of an industrial construction or maintenance site is scaffolding. In Maryland, many historic man-made transport ways still need constant maintenance, such as Mount Royal Station and Trainshed, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge – which, for a time, was known as the world's longest continuous over-water steel structure. The bridge continues to serve as a vital link that connects the state's rural Eastern Shore region with the more progressive Western Shore.
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge stretches across more than four miles of ocean water. With a 3200-foot suspension span over the western channel and a maximum clearance of 186 ft, the bridge is high enough to let large ocean-going ships pass underneath.
When structural repairs or improvements are done on the bridge, expert construction engineers need to take into account more than just the bridge's gigantic framework for scaffolding.
